Rising Tide Consultants Founder and President Bert Hick is pleased to be a panelist at NICHE Canada’s upcoming “Cannabis & Our Community” event in Toronto this month, which aims to educate stakeholders about what to expect as recreational cannabis is legalized.
“Being a part of an educational discussion that encourages constructive dialogue surrounding the legalization of cannabis is needed and I am thrilled that NICHE Canada has invited me to participate in the panel,” said Hick. “My background is 30 years of working in the field of liquor regulations and I see parallels between it and cannabis.”
The upcoming NICHE forum seeks to educate those in municipal government, work safety, health care, insurance, tourism and others sectors that will be impacted by the legalization of cannabis.
Keynote speaker will be Eric Costen, Director General of Health Canada’s Cannabis Legalization and Regulation Secretariat.
He will delve into an overview of the federal framework for cannabis, including the federal licensing regime; packaging and labelling requirements for cannabis product; how communities will be supported through awareness, education and compliance; and engagement with First Nations, Inuit and the Métis Nation.
Costen will also help deliver a “360° View of the Regulatory Landscape” that will touch on federal, provincial and municipal updates.
Other topics of the day will include workplace and road safety; a spotlight on policing and enforcement such as new protocols and training; and how to understand and assess cannabis health benefits cover claims.
There will also be a presentation highlighting the HEXO story, from co-founder and chief brand officer Adam Miron, that will touch on the challenges of creating an adult-use cannabis brand in a tightly regulated market, and more.
